Q: Will Minitor III or IV pagers work on a narrow band system?
A: Yes.

Q: Should we continue to use our Minitor III and IV pagers even though our transmitter is on narrow band.
A: Yes. It is likely you will notice absolutely no difference between using the pagers on narrow band verses wide band.

Q: Can a Minitor III or IV be converted to narrow band?
A: No. The Minitor III and IV pagers were never engineered for use on narrow band systems. While it may be possible to modify Minitor III or IV pagers to narrow band, you may find the results unsatisfactory. The pagers could experience poor reception and/or poor audio quality.

Q: We have been told there is a new transmitter (not ours) broadcasting on the narrow band channel adjacent to our Minitor III or IV channel. Will this cause a problem?
A: Yes. If there is a narrow band transmitter on the adjacent frequency, it's time for you to get new narrow band pagers. The new narrow band transmitter will cause problems with your Minitor III and IV pagers. The new transmitter will likely cause your Minitor III and IV pagers to open squelch, pick up static/strange noises or have intermittent reception.

Q: Will we get in trouble from the FCC for continuing to use wideband pagers?
A: No. The FCC is concerned with transmitters, so make sure all your transmitters are on narrow band. Technically you should be using narrowband pagers but it's likely you don't have the funds to purchase new narrowband equipment for your members. So given a choice between using existing wide band pagers or using nothing at all, the choice is easy.

Q: Our Minitor III or IV pagers are currently operating on the old wideband frequency but we are switching frequencies to a new narrowband channel soon. Will my Minitor III or IV pager still work?
A: It depends. Can the Minitor III or IV be programmed to the new frequency? If the pager can be programmed to your new frequency then yes, they will work. If the pagers can't be programmed to your new frequency then you will need to purchase new equipment.

Q: Our department has limited funds, should we get our broken Minitor III and IV pager repaired or buy new Minitor V pagers?
A: Your department should consider getting new narrow band pagers whenever possible. However if your existing Minitor III or IV pagers work fine, consider getting your broken pagers repaired/serviced as needed. Then slowly phase out the old Minitor III and IV pagers as your budget permits to new narrow band pagers.

Note: the above Q&A focuses on Minitor III and IV pagers but the same recommendations apply to all wide band pagers such as the Minitor II or Keynote pagers.
